Liam Gallagher will invite brother Noel to his wedding – but admits it is only because “me mam told me to”.
And in a move likely to stoke up the bitter split between the former Oasis duo, he confides it is the pair’s older brother, Paul, who will be his best man.
Sipping a vodka and soda in one of his favourite haunts close to his London home, Liam, 46, is sure the snub will not keep Noel away – because, he jibes: “He’ll go to the opening of anything”.
Liam’s 21-year-old daughter Molly Moorish, who he reunited with only last year, will be bridesmaid when he weds manager Debbie Gwyther next year.
Telling all in an exclusive interview with the Sunday Mirror – as Debbie’s nephews run riot in the very down-to-earth setting of a Café Rouge in Highgate – the twice-married rocker declares: “Third time lucky.
“I’m ready to do it again. I’m buzzing more than her. This one’s going to be a big thing.”
Beatles-obsessed Liam says of his girlfriend of seven years: “She is top, man. She is my little Yoko.” He proposed during a holiday on Italy’s Amalfi coast.
Liam says: “We’d been talking about it for ages and Debbie was going, ‘I’m not too sure, I can’t be a***d’.”
“The sun was coming down, we were having a drink and I went, ‘Look, shall we do it?’
“And she’s like, ‘Yeah, yeah, course’. I told my mam and me kids, she told her family, and everyone was buzzing.”
Debbie, 37, smiles and adds: “Liam asked for my dad’s permission… in his own way. He texted him and said, ‘I want you to know I’m marrying Debbie.”
“Then he messaged all the kids and our mates telling them we were getting married… before I’d even said yes.”
Bizarrely, the singer reckons the couple are just like cartoon skunk Pepé Le Pew and his aloof love interest Penelope Pussycat.
Putting on a French accent, he says: “I’m all like, ‘Oh, allo, darling, how are you?’ And she is there with her tail up. That’s just how we are.”
The pair will take their self-written vows in front of 150 friends and family in Italy next summer.
Liam says it will be a world away from his low-key 1997 nuptials with first wife Patsy Kensit, or the time he wed former All Saint Nicole Appleton in 2008.
He tells me: “I never did it last time round, it was just a registry office. So we’re going to go for it.”
And he says his mother had one piece of advice: “Don’t be f***ing this one up.”
He says: “My mam gets on really well with Debbie. She’s always been there. Every mum has their son’s back, but she’s given me a b*****king many times.”
“She says, ‘Look, you’re a bit of a d***’, with the way I have treated people. She’s not all pro Liam.”
And what about Noel? Liam insists: “She thinks Noel needs a f***ing clip. She says we’re as bad as each other, but she knows I’ve put olive branches out.”
“He doesn’t really speak to her either, he doesn’t speak to Paul.”
“It’s not a band thing. All of this stuff about us not speaking because of the band, it’s nothing to do with that.”
“He obviously thinks he’s cooler or better than us. But that would be hard because we are f***ing brilliant.”
Despite their war of words, Liam says dad-of-three Noel, 52, and wife Sara MacDonald will get an invite.
As another round of drinks arrives, he laughs: “Of course he will. My mam is like, ‘You’ve got to invite him’. “And I will. They’ll get a little envelope through the door.”
“They won’t come… but you never know – like I said before, they go to the opening of anything so as soon as they open it, it’ll be like, ‘Come on Noel, get your Dermot O’Leary outfit on, we’re going out’.”
Liam was married to first wife Patsy for three years. They had a son, Lennon, who was 20 on Friday.
During that marriage, the rocker had an affair with fellow musician Lisa Moorish, who gave birth to daughter Molly, now 21. She was reunited with her famous dad last year after being estranged almost since birth.
Liam was also married to Nicole Appleton, 44, for six years, until their divorce in 2014. They have a son, Gene, 18.
So will those former loves be getting invites too? “God, no,” he chokes. “The exes won’t be at the wedding. I’m not like Rod Stewart. That’d be well weird. Just friends and family and the kids.”
He also rules out more children. “I haven’t got the energy, to be fair,” he says. “ and Debbie isn’t too keen either.
“She’d be a mega mum. If she really wanted, we would. But she’s cool.”
Liam reckons his and Debbie’s first dance will be like “f***ing Strictly Come Dancing”.
He reveals: “I’m going to get dance lessons beforehand.”
“I’m gonna f***ing flamenco it up. We will be doing salsa all round the room.”
But while he wants Neil Young’s Harvest Moon or movie hit Greased Lightnin as first song, Debbie is rooting for You Gotta Be by Des’ree.
Insisting the ceremony itself is “not going to be religious, it’s more symbolic”, he does confide that he will ditch his trademark parker for the day.”
“I’m going to wear a black suit,” he says. “Debbie’s going to have a Mariah Carey moment and change into an evening outfit.”
That’s as traditional as it gets. As we move on to the fourth round of vodka and sodas, he assures me: “It can’t be one of those do’s when you’re gagging for a drink.”
Last year photos emerged of Liam and Debbie involved in a drunken “ding dong” – which proved a moment of strength for them both.
Liam recalls: “It was horrible. She was reading about me and all my past, it wasn’t nice for her but she is still hanging about. She is still here for me.”
“All the stuff she’s been through with me, that was pressure – she’d never been in the papers before. I think she deserves a lovely day.”
Turning down more drinks, Liam talks excitedly of his engagement next day as a surprise headliner at the Peaky Blinders festival in Digbeth, Birmingham. He is a huge fan.
In brilliant second solo album Why Me? Why Not – out on Friday – Liam sings about Debbie: “I’m good with my baby, she’s all that I want. She’s filling up my sky like a halo round the sun.”
As I leave, I’m unsure that warmth will ever extend to brother Noel.
