Noel Gallagher reveals he’s in a creative “purple patch” as he writes new songs for his upcoming album.
“A purple patch, some amazing tunes, really incredible”
Noel Gallagher, the legendary Oasis guitarist, shared that he’s deep into songwriting for his next album, after finding a creative “purple patch” during the process.
Following the success of 2017’s Who Built The Moon?, Gallagher has been working tirelessly on the next record, and he credits the lockdown period with allowing him to focus on creating new music.
Speaking on Matt Morgan’s podcast, Gallagher said: “I’ve been in the studio, on a bit of a roll. I’m on a creative run, in a purple patch with some amazing tunes—really incredible stuff.”
He continued, “I’m writing songs for a new album, and I’ve been in the studio every day. Without this, I don’t know what I’d be doing. But being in the studio daily has really brought out some incredible material.”
New Sound with “Electro Shimmer Pop” Influences
Gallagher hints that his new music may build on the psychedelic influences seen in his last record. He explained that he’s been experimenting with a sound he refers to as “electro shimmer pop.”
He clarified: “It’s not actually electro at all. They’re just demos right now, and the finished tracks will be almost unrecognizable, but they’ll still carry the same vibe. Everything’s moving along smoothly, or rather cruising. Once everything opens up, I’ll be living the dream again.”
Gallagher also joked about his routine: “My studio is in the city, so I’ll be going to the pub for lunch, heading back to the studio a bit tipsy, and shouting at people.”
No Release Date Yet for the New Album
As for a release date, Gallagher remains undecided. When asked when fans could expect the album, he responded: “Who knows? I’m still in the writing phase. After five years of non-stop touring, I gave myself time off until 2023, even before the pandemic hit.”
He added: “I’m still on schedule, just taking my time. I was always planning on writing for a couple of years, so there’s no rush for a release date just yet.”
