Interviewed by Rhian Daly for NME, Liam Gallagher talked about his next summer gigs, Knebworth in particular.
Liam will headline a series of massive gigs in Manchester, Dublin, Belfast and Glasgow, bringing tunes from his new record ‘C’mon You Know’.
But the most exciting are the two Knebworth shows.
He sounds humble about the latter, confessing:
āI still canāt get my head round it, really ā I never thought Iād be doing that.ā
At the very beginning of his solo career in 2017, he was worried he wouldnāt sell out Londonās 20,000-capacity O2 Arena.
But he did, and the demand for his gigs hasnāt stopped growing.
He hasnāt given much thought to the Knebworth gigs yet ābecause it spins you out a bitā.
Then he decided to adopt Oasisā approach to the shows in 1996.
āI really didnāt think about it til the week before,ā he explains.
And the documentary, Oasis Knebworth 1996, captured the excitement and atmosphere of a moment in music history.
āWhen I watched that film the other week some of the versions were a bit ropey, man. Some of the antics were a bit fucking giddy, so Iām gonna hold it down this time a bit. But itās gonna be mega having another go at it ā it just goes to show that the people want it.ā
When Oasis went to Stevenage, the band flew into the gigs on a helicopter.
Will he use the same mode of transport, given he was injured after falling out of a chopper after the Isle Of Wight festival?
āI did fall out of a helicopter, but it was on the ground,ā
āEveryoneās drinking, and Iām like, āAlright, Iāll fucking drink thisā, so Iāve hit the brandy ā nothing too much.ā
āAnd then about three in the morning, someone says, āRight ā weāve got to go nowā. So we take off and Iām still thinking, āIf we get back to our house in time, we can still have a drinkā.ā
When the helicopter landed, he opened the door to climb out, but missed the step:
āIāve just gone whack, flat on my face on this fucking concrete.ā
His partner Debbie Gwyther was on hand to help:
ā[Sheās] got me up and Iāve got to go to me fucking doctor at three in the morning. Heās got a screaming baby upstairs and theyāre fucking stitching me nose up and Iām fucking zapped. And that was that.ā
Knebworth gigs are scheduled a week after the realeas of his third album āCāmon You Knowā and the both shows promise to ignite the sense of freedom we all need after the pandemic.
āIt looks like these things could be aligned,ā Liam agrees. āThese things donāt just happen. Fucking something else is going on a bigger fucking thing ā whoever it is or whatever it is. Hopefully, we can all just have a good time and live fucking life and stop worrying about shit.ā
