During a radio interview about the ‘current state’ of music, Noel Gallagher misgenders Sam Smith as he calls them a “f**king idiot“.
On September 2019 Sam Smith said that they were changing their pronouns to ‘they/them’ after a ‘lifetime of being at war’ with their gender.
I’ve decided to embrace myself for who I am, inside and out,” Smith explained in an emotional Instagram post at the time.
I’m so excited and privileged to be surrounded by people that support me in this decision but I’ve been very nervous about announcing this because I care too much about what people think but f**k it!
I understand there will be many mistakes and misgendering but all I ask is you please please try.
I hope you can see me like I see myself now.
Three-and-a-half years later, it seems some people are continuing to misgender the star.
One of them is Noel Gallagher, who has done the same, having mentioned the singer while discussing pop music on Dutch radio station Kink.
The 55-year-old Oasis star was berating the ‘current state of pop music’, saying:
Music has become quite fractured and chart music is dominated by pop. Pop music is alright if the pop stars are cool. Sadly the stars of today are f***ing idiots.
Specifying exactly who he felt was ‘uncool’, Noel Gallagher said:
Sam Smith.
