Chris Sharrock

Chris Sharrock was born on May 30, 1964, in Bebington, Merseyside, England. Growing up, he developed a passion for music and began playing drums at an early age, influenced by the Merseyside music scene. His natural talent quickly gained attention, and by the time he was a teenager, he had already started making a name for himself in local bands. His big break came when he joined the iconic British band The Icicle Works in 1983. With them, Chris contributed to their self-titled debut album, “The Icicle Works”, which featured the hit single “Love Is a Wonderful Colour”.

The Lightning Seeds and World Party

After leaving The Icicle Works, Sharrock became a key figure in the late 1980s and 1990s British rock scene. In 1988, he joined World Party, the band founded by Karl Wallinger. During his time with World Party, he played on their critically acclaimed album “Goodbye Jumbo” (1990), which included hits like “Put the Message in the Box” and “Way Down Now”.

By the mid-90s, Sharrock had joined The Lightning Seeds, led by Ian Broudie. His drumming featured prominently on the album “Jollification” (1994), a record that delivered chart-topping hits like “Lucky You” and “Change”. The Lightning Seeds’ infectious pop sound helped to cement Sharrock’s reputation as one of the most versatile and in-demand drummers in the UK.

Oasis and Beady Eye

Sharrock‘s career took a major leap in 2008 when he was recruited as the drummer for Oasis, one of the most successful British rock bands of all time. He joined the band during their tour for the album “Dig Out Your Soul”, replacing longtime drummer Zak Starkey. Chris played a crucial role during Oasis‘ final years, performing on their last world tour before their breakup in 2009.

Following the split of Oasis, Liam Gallagher formed Beady Eye in 2009, and Chris Sharrock continued as the drummer. With Beady Eye, Sharrock played on both of their albums: “Different Gear, Still Speeding” (2011) and “BE” (2013). Both records received positive reviews, and the band’s energetic live performances showcased Sharrock’s powerful drumming style.

Recent Projects and Collaborations

After Beady Eye disbanded in 2014, Chris continued to work with Liam Gallagher, joining him on his solo tours and playing on his solo albums, including “As You Were” (2017) and “Why Me? Why Not” (2019). His long-standing collaboration with Gallagher helped maintain his presence in the British music scene.

Throughout his career, Chris Sharrock has also collaborated with several other prominent artists and bands. He has worked with Robbie Williams, contributing to Williams’ albums like “I’ve Been Expecting You” (1998), which included the hit single “Millennium”.
